FOOD DEHYDRATING CLASS
Bee Tree Folk School
Drying food is the oldest method of food preservation. It has been used for centuries to preserve foods. The methods have been greatly improved upon, and it is still a valuable and relevant method of food preservation.
This class will cover the many benefits of drying, the types of food dehydrators available today, the best methods to use for meats, fruits, vegetables and herbs to produce a safe, nutritious product, and how to correctly store your product. We will include sun-drying, oven-drying, using home food dehydrators, conditioning and pasteurization of products, pre-treating methods and everything else you need to know to safely process and store your home-dried products.
Foods from your own trees and gardens or from the farmers’ market, CSAs, generous neighbors, foraging, etc. can save you money, support healthier diets and provide better nutrition for you and your family. Come join us and learn how this method is as valuable today as it was for our ancestors!
You will also have the opportunity to put together and take home a shelf-stable and convenient soup mix made from dehydrated ingredients. The class also includes a recipe booklet using home-dehydrated foods.
